Take our Consumer Survey on the Charter Oak Plan

The Governor has proposed a new health plan called the Charter Oak Plan to cover uninsured people in Connecticut who aren't eligible for HUSKY or other state programs. The proposal is still being worked out - the state is looking for input, especially from people without insurance. Let us know what you think.

Your Proposed Benefits:

  • Prescription drug copays as low as $10 to $15, higher for brand name drugs
  • Doctor visit copays from $25 to $35
  • Coverage for 80% of hospital costs (you pay 20%)
  • Ambulances will be covered for emergencies
  • Mental health coverage (dental and vision will cost extra)

Your Proposed Costs:

  • Premiums of $250 per month, with assistance for people with low incomes
  • $1,000 deductibles – you would have to pay $1,000 in health costs each year before the insurance starts paying

Conditions:

  • The Charter Oak Plan will be linked to the HUSKY program with the same HMOs and providers
  • Only people who have been uninsured for 6 months can sign up, with some exceptions

Do you think $250 per month is reasonable and affordable for this insurance? Do you think uninsured people can afford that? Would you look around for a better deal if you need insurance?

If the Charter Oak Plan is run with the HUSKY program, would you like the plan more, less, or doesn't that matter to you?

What should the state know about this plan? What would you like changed about the proposal described above?

Are you or anyone in your family currently uninsured?

Yes, I'm uninsured Yes, a family member is uninsured No, we all have insurance
