Health Policy Decision Tree: Enforcement
If there is a Connecticut state law that addresses your
issue/problem, and it isn't being enforced:
We assume you are not describing a criminal or emergency issue. If
either is the case, contact the appropriate law enforcement or emergency
authorities.
- Contact the agency that is directly responsible. Each agency has a
Community Relations unit. Many have toll-free numbers to register
complaints. Some possibilities:
- Department of Consumer Protection, http://www.state.ct.us/dcp/,
1-800-842-2649
- Office of Managed Care Ombudsman, http://www.omc.state.ct.us,
1-866-HMO-4446
- Department of Labor, http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/
- Long Term Care Ombudsman, http://www.ltcop.state.ct.us/,
1-866-388-1888
- Office of Health Care Access, http://www.ohca.state.ct.us/,
1-800-797-9688
- Department of Children and Families, http://www.state.ct.us/dcf/,
1-800-842-2288
- Department of Social Services, http://www.dss.state.ct.us/,
1-800-842-1508
- Department of Public Health, http://www.dph.state.ct.us/,
1-860-509-7400
- Department of Environmental Protection, http://www.dep.state.ct.us/,
1-860-424-3000
- Department of Public Safety, http://www.state.ct.us/dps/
- Judicial Branch, http://www.jud.state.ct.us/
- Department of Insurance - Consumer Complaints, http://www.state.ct.us/cid/,
1-800-203-3447
- Contact your state legislators. Yes, they write the laws, but they
also want to know when they aren't being enforced. They can often
intervene on your behalf.
To find your state legislators, go to http://www.lwvct.org/ef/Directory/index.htm
- Contact the Attorney
General's Office. The Attorney General is charged with
representing and advocating the interests of the state and its
citizens, ensuring that state government acts within the letter and
spirit of the law, that public resources are protected for present
and future generations, that the quality of life of all our citizens
is preserved and enhanced, and that the rights of our most
vulnerable citizens are safeguarded.
- Seek legal assistance. To begin, go to Statewide
Legal Services of Connecticut, Inc., 1-800-453-3320 or the Connecticut
Judicial Branch FAQ.
Go back to Question 8.
